Student Spotlight: Fernando Sheeler

Congratulations to Fernando Sheeler! This IT work study and soon-to-be graduate of our Bachelor of IT program has landed himself an impressive paid internship opportunity to start in December! He will be completing a project management internship with Nationwide and then be considered for full-time employment! This will be Fernando's second internship, as he completed one with UnityPoint (formerly Iowa Health Systems) during his associate's program here at Kaplan. Fernando has stayed very active in the field of IT and has shown how hard work can pay off.

Read how Fernando feels graduating with his bachelor's degree will be beneficial to him:

"There are many ways graduating from Kaplan University will be beneficial to my family and I, starting with the career opportunities that were not given to me prior to attending Kaplan University. I am one of two people in my family that reached the educational level that I have on my mother's side, and I believe I am the only person on my father's side with a bachelor's degree. That is a great feeling to be looked at as a role model for your family and to inspire others to go and get a college education. In my family, we come from a lower income side of town; so attending college does not seem to be a reality for most of us. This is proof for everyone; if I can do it, anyone can do it. I also feel I have inspired my young kids to go to college when they get bigger; they have talked to me about college and what it means to go to college. Finally, this was something I have wanted to do for a long time, but never had the courage to do it. Getting a bachelor's degree is something that will never be taken away from me. I am grateful that I had a great supporting cast behind me cheering me on every step, every moment, of this experience. I can finally say I have a college degree."
