Graduate Spotlight(s): Aaron Sarmiento and Maria Mendoza

Have you been itching to hear a great story about a Kaplan graduate lately??? We've been itching to share this one with you! Now it isn't too uncommon for a Kaplan graduate to begin their own business, but it isn't quite as often that two of our graduates go into business together, and the story behind this one is very touching, so we couldn't help but want to share it!

Maria Mendoza, an MBA graduate from 2013, and Aaron Sarmiento, a business administration graduate from January, began a business called MADE4MANKIND Clothing. Here is their awesome story, and how Kaplan made a difference to the two of them.

Maria and I met while I was still attending AIB College and she was in her last term of getting her MBA at Kaplan University.  She always expressed to me how helpful her advisors where and how she couldn't have graduated without them.  In other words she convinced me to transfer and I have not looked back ever since.  We took a trip to the Philippines in 2013 and met a young man who experienced the great devastation of Typhoon Haiyan.  After talking with him we both felt empty and wanting to help, but how?  This thought manifested in our minds and came up with MADE4MANKIND CLOTHING.  A clothing line with a mission to “Give to those without, Help those in need, and Motivate those that dream.”  Because Maria loves to design and has received her MBA she was eager to put those two together and start her own business.  I was taking my Associates in Business and Sales which made even more sense.  We put together what we have learned through Kaplan and decided to launch an e-commerce store January of 2015.  It has been a long road but we still look back at the papers we wrote and books we used while attending Kaplan University to help us create the backbone of MADE4MANKIND CLOTHING.  We truly believe that the ideas, the research, and the creativity we were encouraged to do by our professors helped us shape the business that we have today.  We hope that after 2015 we have collected enough money to donate $1 per item that we have sold to an organization that has the same beliefs as MADE4MANKIND CLOTHING, “Give to those without, Help those in need, and Motivate those that dream.”
